I found an interesting quote from the song “Dardanella” (1919) that Bird plays over a Cherokee solo using chromatics. I enjoy finding strong examples of chromatic and outside ideas from the master improvisors that we all know and love. This one uses an ascending chromatic scale which includes putting the b7 on a down beat over a Major 7 chord while still sounding very melodic and strong harmonically.
~ Enjoy!
