This a short tune I wrote at the piano for my father Bruce’s birthday. The melody with the bass note creates triad inversions. That was the starting point, just trying to come up with some nice inversions where there are two main melodic notes over each bass note which complete the triad. Many of my simple tunes start this way and often evolve (by ear) into something else. This first section lead me to the vamp section which is more of the same concept; using G as a common upper melody note for all the harmonic structures beneath it. The second part came at the end to allow for a simple counter line in a 2nd horn.
