Lesson 146 Part 2: Countdown, Giant Steps, Tri-Tonic

In this video lesson I’ll demonstrate a few ways to practice the minor pentatonic concept outlined in the first video (Countdown Part 1). I start with an brief overview of the last lesson and than play examples of sequential ideas using the pentatonics as well as flowing through the pentatonics in an improvised fashion. The pdf below is an etude that you can use to get an idea of how the material could be used. Sometimes memorizing an etude with an underlying concept can be very helpful in learning the concept. You’ll find several play along tracks below at various tempos to work on the concept. You can use irealb as well to work on it even slower at first.

~ Enjoy!

Here’s an example off a 3-ish Trio album called “Dune Town” featuring Jason Harnell (Drums), Ryan McGillicuddy (Bass) and myself on Tenor sax.

Dune Town (mp3 below) is based on the changes of Countdown in 5/4 with a 3 bar tag. The pdf of the song is below.
