Gigs With Alan Ferber

The composer and trombonist Alan Ferber visited Kansas City recently and we played 3 very fun gigs together, including one with the People’s Liberation Big Band of Greater Kansas City; which featured all of Alan’s original big band compositions.  You can check out his website to hear some of his inspiring large ensemble writing for big band, nonet, nonet with strings etc..   Not only is Alan a great composer and arranger, he is an amazing improviser as well.

Alan is currently living in New York and teaching Jazz improvisation and arranging at NYU.  He gives Skype lessons as well – his contact information is on his website.

Here’s a few bootlegs from the gigs.  I had to fade out the tracks after a couple solos to get them under the 10 mg WordPress limit – if you want the complete tracks just email me.

The first 5 tracks include Ben Leifer on Bass and Brian Steever on Drums.  Track 6 includes Jeff Harshbarger on Bass.

There’s a link below to the sheet music for the original songs we played as well.

~Enjoy!
