This is an overview of the Whole Tone scale. In the video I cover some basic concepts, patterns and theory.
There’s a pdf below with some Whole Tone ideas and a play along that takes you through all 12 keys using bass, drums and a Dominant 9 #5 #11 sound.
The Whole Tone sound is very easy to recognize but very difficult to sing. Try singing the scale and any other melodic idea you come up with over a drone to really help train and improve you’re ear. I’ve yet to meet a student without perfect pitch that can sing a whole tone scale so it’s an a great challenge to work on at any level.
I really like working on whole tone over a blues, using the scale on every dominant chord. I’ve found this to be a great way to begin using the scale.
