CSUN Masterclass on Meditation, Singing, and Cycle Motion:
In this short masterclass I covered Meditation which helps me quiet my mind and hear music internally.
Singing, which connects that inner hearing to my instrument.
I sing scales and intervals slowly, checking pitches at the piano and working toward hearing each note before I play it. I also practice moving through a scale in interval cycles: seconds and sevenths, thirds and sixths, fourths and fifths.
This helps me hear and play the relationships between notes rather than just run scales up and down.
Finally, I take short phrases and shift their rhythmic placement, starting them on different beats and subdivisions. The goal isn’t to collect more patterns. It’s to hear clearly, respond freely, and make music with what I already know.
~ Enjoy!
